About Us

Our Mission

Latina SafeHouse strives to provide bilingual and culturally sensitive services to Latina survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Our Story

We are Latinas serving Latinas, reminding our survivors of their strength, courage, and value. We are here to help our Latinx survivors navigate community resources, feel safe and secure, and most importantly heal and thrive. Latina SafeHouse is an environment where victims and survivors can feel secure in themselves, and build authentic rapport with a person who shares their culture, to break every chain in an abusive relationship.

The services we offer are crucial to Spanish-speaking Latinas, especially those suffering added trauma due to facing unique, intersectional barriers and added forms of poly-victimization, including: heightened fear of deportation for themselves or family members, anti-immigrant sentiment, and oftentimes even separation from their children. Multiple studies demonstrate that culturally sensitive supportive services are crucial toward healing and independence. LSH is unique as a culturally sensitive victims service provider, and works collaboratively with several organizations, law enforcement and legal advocates at the Rose Andom Center and across our region, to help victims at the crux of rebuilding their lives post-victimization.

Our Objective

Our unique organization incorporates understanding of what Latina domestic abuse victims may be experiencing and how to overcome those circumstances. We are sensitive to the cultural aspects that may influence someone to stay in a situation that is damaging to themselves and/or their family. Our staff is fluent in Spanish and provides compassionate, caring and culturally responsive services.

Our principal goal is to empower Spanish-speaking Latina victims of domestic violence to move beyond the cycle of violence and achieve healthy independence. Latina SafeHouse advocates and educates, to increase community awareness and access to domestic violence victims services.

Our History

Latina SafeHouse “LSH” was founded in 2003 by Sister Alicia Cuaron and other Latina leaders to support victims of domestic violence across the Denver Metro area with culturally and linguistically responsive behavioral health counseling, self-sufficiency, advocacy, health, and legal services.  Initially, LSH was staffed completely by volunteers providing direct services and fundraising to help sustain the organization.
